Student’s-only days available at Tax Help NM

 Tax Help New Mexico is offering a spe­cial student-only week for tax assistance, said Executive Director of CNM Connect, Ann Lyn Hall.

From Jan. 31 to Feb. 2, registered students will be able to get free tax assistance without the long lines seen during the regular open period, she said.

“It is often expensive to get taxes done so this is a really nice opportu­nity for students,” said Hall. After Feb. 2, Tax Help New Mexico will be open to all mem­bers of the community through April 15.

“Lines for taxes can be really long, but if students utilize the stu­dent-only days then the wait should not be as bad,” said Hall.

Tax service will also be offered at South Valley and Montoya cam­puses and at the NM Taxation and Revenue Department, said Hall.

At the Westside Campus, students can also receive assistance with filing the FASFA form for financial aid, she said.

Students’ household income must be $51,000 or less to qualify for free tax help and a cur­rent schedule for proof of enrollment will be required on students-only days, she said.

On Feb. 4 Tax Help opens to the public and will run through April 15, said Hall.

Students can also visit http://www.myfreetaxes. com/cnm to file taxes online for free, said Hall.

For online assistance, the annual household income must be $57,000 or less, she said.

Community mem­bers who would like tax help are welcome, but must make less than $51,000 annually or be over 65 years of age, she said. To receive help, students and com­munity members must bring a picture ID, Social Security cards for all members of the family, W-2 forms, daycare expenses receipts, school admission receipts, school supply receipts and any other tax docu­ments available, she said.
