Workers from Theco, an electrical contractor out of Corrales, install a light pole on the new plaza in front of the Louis Saavedra Administration Building, as the project reaches the finish line.  The project features concrete benches, freshly planted trees, and a new bike rack.  It occupies part of the space where “N” building once stood.  The workers requested to remain anonymous.

The construction boom at CNM continues as we enter the New Year.
A photographic tour of campus showed at least three construction projects currently on-going.

Last year, the college knocked down “N” Building on the north side of the Main Campus.  Workers from Contrares Constructio Corp., of Albuquerque, have been putting in a plaza in the eastern half of N’s foot print, in front of the Louis E. Saavedra Administration Building. The large plaza will add benches and tables to the trees left in place at the site  workers said.

CNM Built the Market Place on University Boulevard and moved the book store into it.
Now the Robert. P.  Matteucci Hall or RPM  Building,  which used to house the book store, is being converted by the college into a catering/brewery facility.  Brycon Construction of Albuquerque is the general contractor for the job.

Meanwhile workers are forging ahead with a long planned remodel of Ken Chappy Hall.  College officials have said they expect to move some art classrooms venues that were moved into the newly renovated Max Salazar Hall from the demolished. “N” Building, into Ken Chappy, when its remodel is complete.

Work on the ceiling above an exterior  walkway in Ken Chappy Hall can be seen in the slideshow. Franken Construction of Albuquerque is the general  contractor for the Ken Chappy remodel.

On Sept 23rd, nothing remained of N Building but a pile of rubble, which should be removed within a month, according to representatives of Bradbury Stamm Construction, contractors for the demolition.   The area will become part of the North Parking Lot, according to CNM officials. It took about three weeks for two excavators to take down the building.

The end is near for N Building.  Two excavators chomped and chewed away at the west side of N building on Monday, September 14th.  The building looked to be about two/thirds devoured, and the excavators were not pausing to brush their teeth.  Pablo Botello, of the Bradbury Stamm construction company, superintendent in charge of the demolition, said he expected the building to be completely leveled by the end of September.  He said he expected it would take another month to clear and clean the site of rubble.  Meanwhile the east end of N Building seemed to be patiently waiting for the final curtain.

Demolition of N Building commenced on Monday, August 31, after several months of prepping the building for its demise.
Pablo Botello, a superintendent for Bradbury Stamm, the general contractor for the project said the demolition should take about 8 to 10 weeks to complete
Yesterday a huge excavating machine was working on knocking down a wall on the southwest corner of the building.
Botello said another excavator will soon be brought in , and that along with a bulldozer and a water truck, to keep the dust down, should be enough equipment to get the job done.
The subcontractor performing the actual demolition work is Custom Grading of Albuquerque, Botello said.
